If you are planning on sending in any food items for your child's birthday or other celebration please refer to the following:
Contact your child's teacher in advance; preferably at least two (school) days in advance.
All items must be store bought and unopened.
Package must have nutrition label on it. "Peanut/Tree Nut Free"
Treats will be served the last 10 minutes of their lunch time. Or at the teacher's preferred time.
Goody/Treat bags (or the like) must be given to the main office to give to the teacher to distribute at the end of the day.
Due to allergies or other medical reasons; treats may only be distributed to your child's class/teacher ONLY.
Refer to the Acceptable Celebration Treats list below or from the additional suggestions by viewing the information on this link: Smart Snacks/Celebration Foods For Students
Mini cupcakes labeled “Peanut/Tree Nut Free” (excellent choice for students with nut allergies plus they are the perfect size)

Store bought/pre bagged veggies & dip (includes sealed trays or individual packs)
Snack Packs/single serving packs of cookies (ex: graham crackers, Animal cookies, Nilla Wafers, Teddy Grahams, etc)
Gogurt Yogurt snack tubes or yogurt cups
Single serve packs of pretzels, Sun Chips, Baked Potato chips, Tortilla chips
Pudding or Jello cups

Prepackaged snack cakes (ex: Little Debbies, Hostess, TastyKakes)
NON food treats like small toys, pencils, markers, erasers, crayons, stickers, mini craft kits
PLEASE NOTE NO large/regular size frosted cupcakes or whole cakes that require slicing/plating. They are not a good choice for many reasons (our students with nut allergies cannot eat them, the teacher doesn’t have time/supplies needed to slice a cake, and their calorie count exceeds the amount allowed by HCS Policy). Also the kids generally don’t eat the whole cupcake so a lot gets wasted/thrown away.
Allergies differ from classroom to classroom so check with your student’s teacher prior to bringing any snacks. We want every student to be able to enjoy the treat! It’s no fun for a child when they see their classmates get a treat that they can’t have due to allergies.
ALL treats must be dropped off in the main office prior to the beginning of the school day so the Nurse can check them for potential allergens. The teacher will distribute the treats during lunch and the students will eat them in the cafeteria. There are no “ in classroom” birthday celebrations.
NO HOMEMADE TREATS OR PRIVATE BAKERY TREATS ARE ALLOWED. ALL TREATS BROUGHT IN MUST BE IN ORIGINAL SEALED PACKAGING WITH THE NUTRITIONAL AND ALLERGY INFORMATION CLEARLY LABELED.
Thanks for your cooperation in keeping all of our students safe and healthy.
